Investigators say they have made contact with an out-of-state "person of interest" in the Alexis Murphy case.
Nelson County Sheriff David Brooks tells Newsplex media partner Blue Ridge Life magazine it was a "normal lead" they were following up.
Brooks describes the unnamed male as "a person of interest we had been wanting to talk to in the course of normal investigation" and says it is not breaking news.
Seventeen-year-old Murphy was last seen Aug. 3 at the Liberty gas station in Lovingston.
Nelson County resident Randy Allen Taylor is behind bars at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail, charged with abduction in the case.
In August, Taylor's attorney argued in court that investigators arrested the wrong man.
His lawyer showed a picture of a black man with cornrows, saying, "this individual has seen Alexis since [Taylor] has seen Alexis."
The lawyer refused to give the man's name.
