Thursday evening the Charlottesville School Board had more announcements about the additional funds it found in its budget. It turns out Charlottesville City Schools do not have the nearly $300,000 they thought they did.

Chair Julie Gronlund and the district's Director of Finance, Ed Gillaspie, made the announcement.

Initially the school said it funded money to five teacher salaries, totaling $292,000. This week, though, the board said those salaries were going to be funded instead by a federal grant program. That's where they thought they made the error.

But it turns out, the board did not originally budget those salaries, so the original numbers were correct.

"Based on what people saw and heard this morning, you would think that there was $300,000 out there that we need to decide what to do with, And that is not the case," announced school board chair, Julie Gronlund."

The board was looking forward to hearing from the community tonight on how to use that extra money, but instead continued completing the current budget as planned.
