A new brewery in Charlottesville is offering a taste of history.

Three Notch'd Brewery held its grand opening on Saturday. The brewery is next to McGrady's Irish Pub off 10th Street.

The tasting room is now open to the public for tastings, music and a beer-naming competition for the Belgian tripel ale.

The name of the brewery is inspired by a colonial route that passes through Charlottesville.

"Three Notch'd Road is so full of history," brewer Derek Naughton said. "the wealth of the stories that are based around Three Notch'd Road, like Jack Jouett's 40-mile ride, that story itself is synonomous with Charlottesville, which is translatable to the history of Virginia and the history of the United States."

Even though the brewery just opened, beer drinkers might already see its offerings on tap at a number of establishments downtown.
