The third and final teen guilty of a brutal double homicide was sentenced today.

Jessica Fugett will probably never see outside of her prison walls again. A judge today sentenced Fugett to serve 100 years in prison for what he called the senseless and brutal murders of a mother and her three year old son.

Jessica was 15 when she, her brother and their friend, Robert Davis, robbed and killed their Crozet neighbor Nola Charles. Jessica will be 19 when she's sent to prison for her murder and if she lives long enough 118 before she's eligible for release.

“A 100 year active sentence for Jessica Fugett. I think the court directly ascertained is one of the leaders of this very vicious and brutal crime,” said Albemarle Commonwealth Attorney Jim Camblos.

The Commonwealth said in February 2003 it was Jessica who carried the duck tape used to tie Charles' arms and feet and it was she who brought the knife used to cut her throat. The group then set a fire to destroy any evidence. Charles' three year-old son Thomas died in that blaze.

Last November, Jessica was found guilty of both murders. At the sentencing today the Commonwealth showed the judge video of Jessica smiling and waving at our camera minutes after the judge rendered his verdict. Poof, they said, Jessica has no remorse.
“You would think that someone who was truly remorseful after being convicted of crimes like that would be absolutely devastated,” said Camblos.

As for the family devastated by the loss of a wife and child, the Commonwealth hopes they'll find closure in what amounts to a life sentence for Jessica.

“It’s been a tragedy all the way around but the families of the victims are pleased its over,” said Camblos.

Jessica’s attorney told us the sentence was harsh and he may appeal the judge's ruling.

As for the other teens involved in the murders, Jessica's brother, Rocky Fugett, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 75 years in prison. Robert Davis entered an Alford plea and was sentenced to 23 years.
