Local police officers got recognition for their hard work Saturday evening.
The Charlottesville Police Foundation hosted more than 200 officers and their guests at the Omni Hotel for an appreciation dinner.
Police chief Tim Longo presented awards that highlighted officers who have used creativity, compassion and courage in the field -- some of which often go unnoticed.
"Lots of the things we'll talk about tonight won't make the front page of the newspaper. They never came to the attention of our community. There are things that cops do every day and they are silent, but they make such a profound difference in this community," said Longo. "So we set this night aside [and] our police foundation sponsors this event to say thanks."
