Albemarle Co. Police Investigate Possible Abduction

Oct. 21, 2013

The teenager that disappeared on Friday night was home safe 11 hours later. But what happened to her during those 11 hours?

The parents of the16-year-old girl say she was abducted. The Albemarle High School student came home to Dunlora Drive on Friday night and stepped outside to take some pictures. Her parents found her phone in the yard just after 11 p.m. A neighbor found her walking up Rio Road at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.

The teen reportedly went to the hospital, but is now safe at home.

Some neighbors we spoke to are relieved the girl is safe, and are hoping it was just an isolated incident. Others say that they worry because there are so many young children and teenagers in the area. Mark Dryer says they have lived in Dunlora for years and never had any reason to worry for their safety there.

"I'm happy to live here. It's a very nice neighborhood, we have lovely neighbors and I feel quite happy here. But when I hear of incidents like this it’s worrying."

Police will not say what happened to the teen. Albemarle Police Lt. Darrell Dyers says it is still an active investigation. They will not say whether they have a suspect in the case or whether there was any criminal activity.
