The Albemarle County Police Department says a missing elderly woman last seen Friday evening has been found deceased.

Police say 75-year-old Evelyn Turner was found dead in a wooded area near Tennis Drive in the Four Seasons community around 1:45 p.m. Sunday. They say there are no indications of foul play.

Turner was last seen at the West Park Market on Four Seasons Drive around 9 p.m. Friday, and a clerk reported she appeared to be confused and asked for directions home. The police department and Albemarle County Sheriff's Office began their search around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

Virginia State Police issued a missing senior alert Sunday morning.

"I just felt that, as they started the door-to-door search, they would open up a door and she would be sitting there," said Turner's son Brian Robinson. "I didn't...I didn't expect this type of outcome."

Robinson says he believes his mother was trying to get to his sister's house near Four Seasons when she wandered off, though the family hoped for the best.

"You know, right up until the last minute I just believed that some neighbor took her in and I just kept telling myself, oh, she's probably having a cup of coffee right now. She's just out of sort and they don't know where she needs to go," said Robinson.

Turner is believed to have had dementia. Robinson says this is the first time he is aware his mother left her complex at Arbor Crest Apartments alone.

He says, though they are grieving, the family is thankful the community pulled together to bring the loving mother of three and grandmother of six home.

"The Sheriff's team did an excellent job. Search and rescue, they kept us informed," said Robinson. "To be honest with you, they really treated us really like partners."

More than 15 agencies statewide were involved in the search.

Police provided no further details.
