Changes could be coming to Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) laws. Since 1985, it has been illegal for restaurants to advertise "happy hour" outside their business.
Currently, restaurants are only allowed to place a small sign in front to advertise happy hour.
There is some gray area in the happy hour laws, because they were written when there was no such thing as social media.
After review, ABC has decided to amend its regulations to allow happy hour ads in other places. But even after the changes are approved restaurants still won't be able to tell you about their drink specials, just that happy hour is underway.
