Charlottesville City School Board accepted the budget recommendations made by Acting Superintendent Robert Thompson

Incoming Superintendent Rosa Atkins attended Thursday night?s meeting, where recommendations include pay raises for teachers as well as an increase in tuition for students who don't live in Charlottesville school district. That increase would be around 5%.

Another recommendation was to eliminate the position Director of School Improvement. This is a new position held by Dr. Laura Purnell.

"If you should decide to go through with this action, please note that many educators will be disappointed and many children's education will be negatively impacted," said Charlottesville High School teacher, Josh Walton. "Also I have that you carry on with the collaborative, critical groundwork that Dr. Purnell has laid down."

In addition to those recommendations, the board will also have to decide if they want to reinstate a career counselor position at Charlottesville High School as well as adding two academic coordinator positions within the school system.

Charlottesville School Board members will have a few more weeks before having to make a final decision on the budget.
