If you like Reality TV or Stand-Up comedy, tonight was your lucky night. Comedian Kathy Griffin performed her standup show at the Paramount Theatre in Charlottesville Thursday night, but before the show began, she had something special in store for one local woman.
On Thursday the comedian talked about some of what she'll include in her standup show in Charlottesville. Griffin said "everybody goes down hard. Of course I'm obsessed with American Idol. My favorite is the--how shall I say--'fanciful cowboy,' Garrett," said Kathy Griffin.
While she geared up for the event, Griffin also had a special surprise for a local fan.
"I'm going to surprise someone who wrote me an email and said that she had a friend who was a fan of mine and has done all sorts of charitable work with HIV organizations, and now has very bad, degenerative rhumetoid arthritis...She lives in the neighborhood and so we're going to go surprise her."
So Griffin, along with the crew from her Bravo reality show, headed across town. As Griffin and the crew creeped up the street, her fan Prakash, unknowingly was waiting inside. Inside she was shocked to see Griffin, her crew, and our cameras.
"Look, we even brought the news," said Griffin.
Prakash was thrilled. "I'm still recovering from meeting Kathy today. I'm very excited. I just adore her, she's such a doll. And I'm thrilled to meet her," she said.
Thursday's surprise visit was all thanks to a close friend.
"I just sent an email about my great friend who does so much for me and my community and we'd love to give back to her in some way. Then about ten days ago I got an email from the producer and I nearly passed out," her friend explained.
Griffin's second season of 'My Life on the D-List" premiers in June on the Bravo network and will include scenes from her trip to Charlottesville.
