New Charlottesville Group to Donate Turkeys to Families in Need

Nov. 22, 2013

A new Charlottesville organization is giving back to the community this holiday season with a turkey drive.

The Young Black Professional Network (YBPN) focuses on bringing African-American professionals in the community together. They are holding their first turkey drive this Sunday, asking for people to donate uncooked turkeys for families in need.

They are looking to help 100 families in the Charlottesville community.

“We all know how important it is, how big of a holiday Thanksgiving is and we really want everyone to have a turkey,” said YBPN President Wes Bellamy. “There's no reason in a city such as Charlottesville that people should go hungry. This is just a way to show people, not only do we care, but that the YBPN is really here to make sure the community is taken care of.”

The turkey drive takes place on Sunday, Nov. 24, from 4 p.m. to 6 P.M. at the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center.

Those interested in donating a turkey can drop one off at the Heritage Center at 2 p.m.

The event is first-come-first-serve, so families in need of a turkey are asked to arrive early.
