Wintergreen Resort in Nelson County is showing off its new snow gun that will ensure the slopes have enough powder for skiiers, snowboarders and tubers.
Wintergreen officials say it's the largest gun they could buy. It can make up to 170 gallons of water into snow each minute.
The gun can only be used in big, wide open areas because of the amount of snow it produces.
It was put in last week, standing 25 feet in the air, and it will be in use for a long, snowy season.
"More snow. Better snow. Earlier season. Longer season. Snow is everything," said Jay Roberts, the resort's vice president. "The ability to make more of it means we get open faster, we stay open longer and we just have better conditions for our customers."
Wintergreen is hoping to open next weekend, which is two weeks earlier than expected.
