A wad of cash found in a handful of trash has been reunited with its rightful owner.
"I was like oh my gosh, one two, three, four, $600 oh my gosh. It was just a lot of money and it's a lot of money for somebody to lose," said Christine Fleckles who found the money.
Mozhdeh Monjezi lost the money while at the mall a couple of weeks ago. She said she tried to find it but she couldn?t.
"In the mall I remember I had $600 cash in my purse. I tried to find it. I didn't find that!" she explained.
Fleckles who is a longtime employee of the Belk department store in the Fashion Square Mall was cleaning up one afternoon. She grabbed what she thought was trash from a cosmetics counter and put it in her pocket to throw out later.
That trash turned out to be cash.
"Half an hour, forty-five minutes later I just took the stuff out of my pocket and I [looked] at it and [said] 'Oh my God, it's money,'" said Fleckles.
Fleckles found a check stub along with the money and some quick detective work got her Mozhdeh's phone number.
"Everybody told me you can't find it because that was cash and nobody [can] return it," said Mozhdeh.
When asked if she thought about keeping it, Fleckles said "Well, I have to say, it crossed my mind." But she did the right thing and returned the money.
"She was really sweet, and said she was going to cook me a Persian meal, so I thought that was a pretty fair return," said Fleckles.
Mozhdeh said that this experience just shows why she loves America so much.
