If you've always wanted to be in the movies, but thought you missed your chance, today may have been your lucky day. Lots of people came to Charlottesville today to become an extra in the upcoming movie "Evan Almighty." Turnout today was good.
"Usually the first day is sort of that big first push and then the second day is also a nice steady flow, but I need a lot of people so it's okay," said Tammy Smith, the extras casting director for the film.
A lot of people is exactly what she got.
"Today we saw about 1,200 people. I'm not gonna lie," she added.
Extra hopefuls learned a bit about the film today and then each had their picture taken. Those who turned out varied from the experienced.
"I try to come to any [casting calls] I can. I have a degree in theater and just any opportunity to perform or get some film work," said Johnel Childress, as she waited to have her photo taken.
There were also the not so experienced.
"I have no acting experience at all actually, but I think this is a cool opportunity," said another person in the crowd.
Others say it just seems like something worth trying.
"Me and my girlfriend thought it'd be fun to come out and see what it was about, and see if we can try get on and maybe be in a movie," said Joseph Phillips.
"Whoever thought that a major movie would come to Charlottesville, so that's why I decided to be here today," said Kathy Nixon who is getting her PhD at UVA.
There were also those who hope their talent will stand out and possibly lead to something even bigger.
"I am an actress, and I am funny. I'm also a stand-up comedian and I want to go to Hollywood so I can be famous one day," said another woman.
The filming for the movie is scheduled to start next month.
