University Police Charge Charlottesville Man with Rape

Derrick Leon Johnson Sr. has been charged with rape in connection with a sexual assault in Charlottesville.

A Charlottesville man has been charged in connection with a sexual assault in the city.

University of Virginia Police has charged Derrick Leon Johnson Sr. with rape, after investigating the reported assault on New Year's Day.

The victim, also a Charlottesville resident, sustained minor injuries.

Johnson was taken into custody without incident on Jan. 3rd, and is being held at the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail.

He is scheduled to appear in Charlottesville General District Court on Monday, Jan. 6th, for a bond hearing.
