The first candidate to run for Charlottesville's school board this year made the announcement Wednesday.
Vance High says he has a proven track record when it comes to helping students. High taught for 10 years. He says if he's elected he'd like to see a stronger curriculum and more public involvement.
"We should have more mentoring; kids should have someone to go to, to get some assistance. There should be more accountability from the parents--this is not something where you can just drop you're kids off at school and expect them to be babysat," said High.
School board elections will be held on May 2.
