Bond Deferred for Man Accused in Stabbing and Fight

Jan. 13, 2014

A Charlottesville man appeared in court Monday morning in connection with a stabbing over the weekend.

The bond hearing for 41-year-old Dominic Lewis was deferred Monday. Lewis is charged with malicious wounding.

According to police, at 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, Lewis got into an argument with a 26-year-old man at Gameday Restaurant on Fontaine Avenue. During that fight Lewis threw a beer bottle which hit a Gameday staff member in the head, sending him to the hospital
"Officers responded, but upon their arrival the men had fled," said Lt. Ronnie Roberts of the Charlottesville Police Department

Police say about 20 minutes later, Lewis and the man he had been arguing with got into another fight at the Waffle House on Fifth Street. It was there that Lewis stabbed the other man.

Lt. Roberts says altercations drawn out over a period of time are not uncommon.

"It does happen from time to time, especially when someone is after the other. Sometimes it will go from one location to the other. Sometimes those altercations can stay in someone's mine for several days," Roberts said.

A judge deferred ruling on Lewis' bond until the defendant can meet with his court appointed attorney.
