Fire Destroys Albemarle County Home

January 29, 2014

A fire Tuesday evening destroyed a home in the Ivy area of Albemarle County.

Crews were called to a home in the 1000 block of Woodlands Road at 6:16 p.m. When firefighters arrived they found flames coming from the rear and roof of the home.

Dozens of firefighters worked to keep the fire under control. Tanker trucks had to make repeated trips to fill their tanks because there is no water on site.

According to fire officials, people were inside the house when the fire started. They were able to get out without injury.

A preliminary estimate of damages puts the loss at $560,000.

An initial investigation indicates the fire was accidental.
