Snow Shoveling Pain in Charlottesville

Feb. 17, 2014

As many people had to spend almost an entire day over the weekend shoveling, their backs were the ones to pay the price.

After the heavy snowfall on Wednesday and Thursday left over a foot of snow in many areas, the people of Central Virginia had to shovel their way out.

This sent many to the chiropractor for a fix up. Dr. Douglas Cox, a chiropractor for Charlottesville says this is the busiest time of the year.

"The first four patients in the day came in all hurting their back because they were shoveling snow; we are just booked this is the busiest day of the year every year right after a snowfall"

Most people are out shoveling for over an hour without warming up. As a result they usually get some back pain.

Dr. Cox says the best remedy is to ice for about twenty minutes directly after an injury or during soreness.
