More than 350 people get a sneak peek into the brand new Martha Jefferson Outpatient Care Center at an open house on Saturday.
It's been a long time coming for people living in northern Albemarle County and surrounding counties. Those are Martha Jefferson are saying, 'finally.'
"There has been a lot of planning and we've been waiting for this. So now we're finally moving in and we're so excited," said Jane Silvester, Martha Jefferson's director of pharmacy and emergency services.
The brand new Martha Jefferson Hospital Outpatient Care Center on Proffit Road will be open 24/7 and will accept ambulances The new location features on-site emergency services, making the process more efficient starting right away with 911 calls to the rescue squads.
"The rescue squads who have come down from Ruckersville and Greene County can now stop here if appropriate, instead of having to go into town and therefore they're not out of service to their own communities," Jim Haden, president of Martha Jefferson Hospital, said. "This is going to be great for everyone."
For the patients who have been driving almost an hour just to get lab work done, now it's all closer to home.
"It's quite a trek for our patients in Greene or Madison to get into our hospitals. Now, they will have easy access to emergency services, to radiology and imaging services and even lab services right here in their own community," Silvester said.
Just about everything is in place at the new center, on Tuesday, staff will transport some of their old equipment and monitors to the new location before opening their doors for good on Wednesday morning.
