Fluvanna native Chris Daughtry made it through another elimination round on American Idol Wednesday night. Viewers who watch the show know how nerve-wracking it can be watching and waiting to see if your favorite performer is voted off or if they'll make it through another round. But imagine how it feels when your favorite, is your son.

"Even though we know we feel like he's going to do well, it's still just that anticipation. And then after he does what he's going to be doing, it's just like a sigh of relief," said Sandra Daughtry, the mother of Idol contestant Chris Daughtry.

"I was really nervous last night because he was last again, but... they save him for last. You know the best is at the end," said Pete Daughtry, Chris' father.

The Daughtry's, like millions of Americans, don't miss an episode of American Idol, and it's no surprise. Their son Chris has made it all the way to the finals.

"It's amazing," explained Sandra. "It is kind of hard to describe. It's just an awesome feeling."

"Stuff like this just doesn't happen to people like us," added Pete.

He said Chris always had an interest in performing.

"He was really good in art and drama, and then he decided he wanted to learn how to play a guitar," said Pete.

Wednesday night Chris heard positive feedback from the judges, including Simon.

"This, for me, was the only real-world performance in so much as I actually could imagine you having a hit with that record," said Cowell after Daughtry's performance on Tuesday night.

Speaking of Simon, Chris' mom says she thinks he has some words of wisdom.

"People say Simon is critical, but yet he's been in this business a long time and he gives them good advice," said Sandra.

Chris' parents say they are very pleased with his work so far.

"He's presenting himself well, singing well, so I think he stands just as good a chance as anybody," said Sandra.

Sandra and Pete said that they are hoping to make a trip to Los Angeles at some point to see a performance. Next week their older son will be in the audience cheering on Chris.

The competition on American Idol will get underway again next Tuesday at 8 p.m. on WAHU FOX 27.
