Scholars have used written records for centuries to understand history, but now there's a new method of documentation.

Senator Ted Kennedy is sponsoring The Miller Center's Kennedy Oral History Project. They have already begun interviews with the goal of capturing emotions and understanding from speech, that you can't pick-up on a piece of paper.

"Oral history enables historians to probe directly to motives, to fears, and visions of those who make policy, make decisions, and affect the world around them," said Sen. Ted Kennedy (D) of Massachusetts.

The Miller Center began collecting interviews last year.
