The accidental shooting death of a Madison County boy last fall shocked the community.

Now, the boy who shot him has accepted a plea agreement.

Dax Dixon had his life cut tragically short last October when he was shot while playing with a friend in Madison County.

For the first time, the events of that day have been explained. The two boys were playing with a gun that was found loaded in the bedroom of the shooters grandmother.

While they were playing, the boy held the gun up to Dax's head and it accidentally went off. The prosecutor says rescuers believed that Dax was killed instantly.

Monday in court, the boy that shot Dax accepted a misdemeanor plea deal. As part of the deal, he will have to be on good behavior, submit to a psychological evaluation, be on supervised probation, and he is not allowed to be in possession of a firearm.

The prosecutor in the case called it tragic, especially considering both of the boys' ages. According to the defense, the young boy that shot Dax is consumed with guilt. The events of that day embedded forever in his mind.

Dax's mother, Tiffany Bean Dixon, says she hopes that the teen will get help. More importantly, Dixon hopes that other families will hear this story and lock up their guns to make sure this doesn't happen to them.

The boy will have to appear in court again in June for the judge to hear the results of an evaluation.

For now, the family of Dax Dixon is hoping to find some peace.
