Greene County Reviews Budget

March 22, 2006

Greene County leaders got started on their budget Wednesday. They heard from about 20 different county agencies during a budget workshop. Each one made a presentation to the board explaining why they need more money.

Bill Purcell of the Ruckersville Fire Department says they need at least 50,000 to buy more fire equipment and keep up with the areas growth.

"We do feel that the volunteer fire company and all the other agencies that provide public safety are important and that now might be the time for them to increase the funding to us," said Purcell.

School leaders requested $800,000. Some of that would be for employee retirement funds. The board plans to sit down during the next few weeks to determine who will get what.
