Transformer Fire Knocks Out Power in Rio Hill Area

Power has been restored to hundreds of people in Albemarle County who were in the dark early Thursday morning.

A transformer fire in the area of the Rio Hill Shopping Center knocked out power to more than 500 people.

Power lines were also knocked down along the side of Route 29 in the area of Goodwill.

Firefighters responded to Kroger after reports of smoke and evacuated the building. No fire was found.

Homes and businesses in the Rio Hill area lost power for a couple of hours.

Nobody was hurt.
