Traffic Delays Expected During Charlottesville Ten Miler

March 28, 2014

With 2,500 runners set to hit the streets of Charlottesville Saturday, March 29, traffic delays are anticipated.

The 39th annual Charlottesville Ten Miler begins at 7:15 a.m. on Grounds of the University of Virginia, near John Paul Jones Arena.

Runners will then make their way down Alderman Road where Charlottesville Police Lt. Ronnie Roberts says drivers can expect to see delays, as well as at the intersection of 7th Street and Market Street.

"There will be intermitting closures while the runner come through, we'll stop traffic to allow them to continue across the roadway, but as soon as we get a break in runner movement will go ahead and move traffic at that time," Lt. Roberts said.

The course takes runners along Preston Avenue, to the Downtown Mall and then back along West Main Street to Grounds. Police say drivers should try avoiding these areas by taking alternate routes.

All Charlottesville Area Transit (CAT) buses, except for Route 5, will be running with delays and detours from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
