City streets were filled with runners Saturday morning for the annual Charlottesville Marathon and Half Marathon.

Families cheered as thousands of people crossed the finish line near City Hall.

They ran around Charlottesville and parts of Albemarle County for the 26.2 mile marathon course.

One half marathon runner was excited to cross the finish line after running all morning.

“It's definitely a hilly place here in Charlottesville, which makes it a bit of a challenge, especially towards the end, there were a couple of steep hills,” says Rusty Carlock. “But it was a beautiful day and all of the people around us were motivating us, so I felt really great.”

This is the 12th year of the event and after the race runners were able to hang out along the Downtown Mall and check out goods from over 30 vendors.
