Over a quarter of Charlottesville residents are living below the poverty level--that's a higher percentage than in Washington DC, but one local group is cooking up a way to help.
Men Who Cook is a group raising money by making meals this Saturday to raise money for Monticello Area Community Action Agency (MACAA) to fund low-income families. There are 50 different chefs making everything from breakfast, to steak, to dessert.
"MACAA's mission is to eradicate poverty and improve the lives of people living in our community," said Jeff Sobel of MACAA. "This is our major fundraiser of the year and we hope to raise about $40,000."
It will be at the Monticello Event and Conference Center at 6 p.m. and there are still tickets available for $70 each by calling 295-3171, ext. 3034.
