2007 Budget. Tonight was the final time that the public could speak about the 2007 final budget. There has been a lot of debate and a lot of input, and they have finally come up with some numbers.

After the $121,195,206 proposal budget was adjusted, Charlottesville City Council came up with a $1,000,000 reduction.

Now standing at $120,195,206, the city's budget received most of its cuts from the decrease in the real estate tax rate. Now home owners will see a $1.005 in taxes for every $100, which is a 2.5 cent decrease.

“A lot of people have participated in the budget this year,” said David Brown, Charlottesville Mayor. "Not just in the public hearings, but in community forums that we had. People sending emails, phone calls. There certainly has been a lot of input on the budget, which is important. We require public input, but more importantly, we really value public input."

Another adjustment made tonight was the reinstatement of large service pickup in the City of Charlottesville.

The final adoption of the Charlottesville 2007 budget is schedule for April 11.
