CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - The executive director of U.Va. Innovation is stepping down and moving to North Carolina.

W. Mark Crowell says in a news release that he plans to do consulting, writing and speaking in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, about best practices in university innovation.

Crowell also is associate vice president of research at the University of Virginia.

He was hired in 2010 to change U.Va.'s approach to innovation and research. The university says he has facilitated the translation of research innovation, technology and discoveries to the global commercial market.
