This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Virginia Film Festival and it's going to be one of the biggest years yet. There will be 120 films on display during the four-day event.
Tuesday night was the launch party where details about the festivals highlights were shared. There will be films of every genre including foreign films and documentaries. With it being an election year there are also a few political films in the lineup.
Director of the Virginia Film Festival, Jody Kielbasa, said, "One of the highlights is this political side bar that's going on during the festival in advent in the election that's going on a couple of days later so one of the highlights is "All the President's Men" on the 40th anniversary of watergate with Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward.
The presidency film series is in association with UVa's Miller Center.
The festivals opening night will showcase a film created by The Sopranos' David Chase titled, "Not Fade Away". There will also be another showing during the opening night of "Man with the Iron Fist".
There are also fun films for families. On family day, the 75th Anniversary showcase of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" will be shown on the big screen and is free to families to enjoy.
The Young Filmmakers Academy will happen again with year with more than 460 participating students with films being shown at the festival. Kielbasa stated, "One of the highlights is our Young Filmmakers Academy, with over 460 elementary student from over twelve schools here in Albemarle County who will be presenting 90-second short films during this years 25th Anniversary Virginia Film Festival."
Tickets go on sale this Friday, October 6th. The event runs from November 1st through the 4th.
