A new preschool in Albemarle County is hoping to gain a few students for the upcoming school year.

The Albemarle Montessori Children's Community in Hollymead held an open house at its new facility on Sunday afternoon. The preschool is geared toward creating an individualized learning experience for each child.

The school hopes to enroll about 30 children aged 3 to 6 for the upcoming school year.

The founder of the school said it's a great way for kids to learn critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.

"Our No. 1 theme really is two-fold. One is that we follow the child, so it is a very child-oriented environment, and the second is that we provide the best Montessori education that we can," founder Fred Catlin said.

The Albemarle Montessori Children's Community will open on Aug. 1.
