An Albemarle County teacher has received top honors.

Alexandra LaRue Davis has been named the Outstanding Elementary Mathematics Teacher of the Year, by the Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics. The educator has been teaching at Virginia L. Murray Elementary for the past 11 years and is grateful to be picked over many other teachers who share her passion.

"I have to say it was pretty staggering to find out, because I think if you look deeply into what a lot of other teachers do, you would find they are highly dedicated professionals," said LaRue.

To add to her honors, Davis also recently received an award from the Virginia Mathematics and Science Coalition as a Distinguished Math Specialist for the state.
