UVa. Honors Employees at Annual Service Awards Dinner

June 10, 2014

The University of Virginia rolled out the red carpet to honor some of its employees.

The Annual Service Awards Dinner was held at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville on Monday, June 9th.

UVa. President Teresa Sullivan gave the keynote speech at the event.

People who have been with UVa. for 20, 30, 40, even 50 years received special recognition. One honoree, who has worked for the university for 56 years, says she's enjoyed working with UVa., through good times and bad.

"I have loved it even up until today. I had a stroke in 2007, and my boss came to see me. I was crying and he said what's wrong. I said I can't come to work anymore, because I can't drive a car. He said we will fix that and put a computer in your home, and you can work from home," said Mary Hurtt.

Employees were treated to a night of dinner and dancing. Many said the night made them feel like they were in Hollywood.
