Cale Elementary Students Collect More Than 200k Box Tops

June 10, 2014

Students at Cale Elementary School have collected over 200,000 box-tops this year, raising $2,000 in the process.

Teachers in the Special Education Department used the PTO box top campaign as a learning opportunity for students in the department. Students were able to improve their math skills, teamwork, creativity and communication.

"I think what's different about how we did it was my students, in an attempt to practice functional skills but also contribute to the community in a meaningful way, were responsible for gathering the box tops from around the school as well as counting them out in groups of 50," said Mary Margaret Hughes, teacher with the Special Education Dept.

The money will go towards providing field trips for students.
