Fluvanna County Sheriff's Office Investigating Suspicious Death

July 3, 2014

It happened on the 1200 block of Rising Sun Road near Palmyra.

Someone called 911 around 1:00 AM saying a car was on fire.

"While extinguishing the blaze it was determined that a person was in the vehicle. The State Police and arson investigators were called to the scene and are assisting us in the investigation," says Fluvanna County Sheriff Eric Hess.

Investigators say they are still trying to determine what caused the fire and exactly what killed the person inside.

The remains of the person have been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond.

Neighbors in the area say they saw the charred car being taken away around 11:00 AM.

They described it as completely burnt up, even the tires had burned away.

Sheriff Hess says Fluvanna Sheriff's Office is not actively looking for a suspect in the incident.

People who live in the area say they think they know who the victim is, but investigators are waiting on positive identification from the medical examiner's office.
