Crozet's Independence Day Parade is a tradition that dates back many years and Saturday it brought out the community in large numbers, all to celebrate the Fourth of July.

"A lot of people come out. It's a great time, obviously the weather was wonderful. It's fun," says Crozet resident Fred Willard.

It is not your average parade though, yes, there are fire trucks, local organizations, and the nice cars, but there are also lawn mowers and all sorts of unique sightings.

The big hit Saturday, the candy giveaways.

Kids lined the parade route with bags and all, collecting candy from all of the floats.

Definitely a community united to celebrate the Fourth of July.

"There's a lot of us that have grown up here and have lived here for a long time and of course a lot of developments that are coming to town, so it's a great community, great place for kids to grow up," said Willard.

The celebration while fun and exciting does not ever land on the actual Fourth of July.

"It's nice that we celebrate this on the Saturday on either side of the Fourth of July so we're not competing with some of the other celebrations in the area, This gives us a chance to have other folks attend that may not be otherwise able to do so if they had to choose with another parade," says Lee James, Battalion Chief for the Crozet Volunteer Fire Department.

It' is an invitation to surrounding neighborhoods to venture into a small town with a strong community foundation

Such a strong focus on community, this year's grand marshal has spent over half a century living in the town of Crozet.

"It's an honor to be the grand marshal it's the first time I've ever been. We usually have a person in the community and this year they asked me to be it since I've got 58 years in the company," says Virgil James.

The festivities ended Saturday night with live music, rides, food and fireworks.
