The Virginia Tech community is mourning the death this holiday weekend of a student-athlete, the second killed in a week.

The Collegiate Times student newspaper reports junior Alexander Hable died Friday in an incident involving a rope swing in North Carolina.

The 20-year-old was a member of the school's men's lacrosse team.

Authorities are still working to find out how Hable died, but they say he was found on a rock near Lake Gaston.

Hable was originally from Midlothian, Va.

The tragedy comes just days after a Virginia Tech wrestler died in a drowning accident. Darren Hankins died Wednesday when he was swimming with a group in Blacksburg.

Officials say the 21-year-old had difficulty staying afloat, and bystanders were unable to help him stay above water.

Hankins competed on the varsity squad for two seasons but sat out last year due to an injury.
