There have been three homicides in Charlottesville in the past few months. We sat down with the president of the local NAACP Rick Turner and talked about the recent outbreak of violence in Charlottesville.

"You want to say well, what’s going to happen with black on black crime and what’s the solution. I think one of the solutions is equality. One of the solutions is jobs, one of the solutions is not taking your eyes off the prize and the prize is your children."

Dr. Turner says the peace walk that was held last week should be just the beginning for dealing with the violence.

He says more people need to care and get involved.

"There’s all kinds of violence in the city. But we are talking about three men that were killed. I don't think we have people that care enough in the community."

He says it’s not just a problem for the black community.

"It can’t be just the black community because the black community can’t do it by themselves. The African American community in Charlottesville have to take a larger role in solving the violence within our community. It’s still happening to our children too many times."

Dr Turner says the issues facing the black community are often overlooked.

"They don’t look at how wealth is distributed in our community. They don’t look at the racism that is rampant in our community. They want to look at those people are in that position of they did it themselves."

Dr. Turner says people should be upset and outraged that this kind of violence is happening right here in our community.
