Shoes are made for walking and today several people put their shoes to work at McIntire Park.
Saturday’s event is part of the March of Dimes – Walk America 2006. March of Dimes helps families to prevent premature births and birth defects. Some of the money raised at today walk will benefit local families and research.
Organizers say more then 200 people participated in the walk, which is an increase from last year's attendance.
“People are amazing,” said Lisa Starnes from March of Dimes. “They just keep coming out and really giving their time and their energy and raising money and I’m very touched by it. It's fantastic.”
The March of Dimes – Walk America is a national event. This year organizers say they expect to make more than $60,000 in donations.
