Greene County Board of Supervisors held a public hearing Tuesday night concerning the county's $64 million budget.
One popular topic that concerns the public is more funding for the Stanardsville public library. Library officials are asking for an additional $30,000 to operate fully. Without the additional funds, officials say they would have to reduce operating hours from 40 to 20 hours a week.
People in Greene County say that's just not acceptable for their growing community.
"About four years ago my family lost two children in a house fire," said Cindy Knight a library supporter. ”I read my way through my grief. It was wonderful. I can't even tell you how many books I read, but they kept me going."
The board is allowed to make a 1% adjustment in the budget. They agreed Tuesday night to look over its 2006-2007 budget before its approval date May 9, 2006.
