Albemarle County Police are searching for a group of suspects they believe tried to rob an apartment on Wednesday night. The reported armed robbery took place just after 8:15 p.m. in the 2400 block of North Berkshire Road in the Berkshire Apartment complex.
"The victims reported that as they opened the door, an unknown male ordered them to get back. Shortly after, a shot was fired into the apartment," said Sgt. Jim Larkin of the Albemarle County Police.
No one was hit by the bullet. The victims in the apartment reported there were multiple suspects at the door. Those suspects fled the scene. Jeremy McClure lives in the Berkshire Apartments and says he has had some problems in the past.
"The second day we moved in here, there was a shooting on the other side. There's all kinds of problems in the apartment. It's cheap rent but not a good neighborhood," he said.
Police are continuing to investigate the motives for this incident but are confident they will find the suspects.
"We turn it over to our investigations division. They are skilled workers and they know where to go from here," Larkin said.
Police have a limited amount of information to deal with at this point. They say they have some general suspect and vehicle information but are hesitant to release it at this time. They are also investigating whether other crimes in the area may be related.
One of the victims received medical treatment on the scene, but refused to be transported to the hospital.
