People had the chance to check out a rock concert featuring female-fronted rock bands and raise money for community art on Friday.

CHIX started at six Friday evening and went until 1 a.m. Nine mostly female-fronted bands performed at the Ix building in Charlottesville. Proceeds went towards the Ix Art Park, particularly for the events space to fund future events at the park. The Ix Art Park a public place for interaction, murals, sculptures, and performances at the unused space in the Ix complex.

"The big thing with the Ix property is talking about possibilities. And I think women can be rock stars and should be rock stars and are rock stars, so let's put 'em on stage and celebrate that," said organizer Brian Wimer.

The night also featured the acrobats Moonlight Circus and multi-media light and video projections by Abel Okugawa and Aaron Farrington.

"This was sort of an empty lot before and a warehouse that was being used to store stuff. Now it has Shakespeare plays and women rock concerts and God knows what next. So can your driveway be, so can your back alley, so can any place that you've thought about, 'what can happen here?' So, think about that, 'what can happen here?'" said Wimer.

A group meets on Wednesday for a Mix at Ix at Six. If you're interested in the art park, visit their Facebook page here.

"It's not just what we make happen, it's what people make happen. So if somebody wants to do something here, give me a shout and we'll make it happen," said Wimer.
