Charlottesville city schools moved their classrooms to the downtown mall for the Government Services Fair on Thursday.
Buford Middle School's band kicked off this event at the Charlottesville Pavilion, while 24 city agencies set up at different locations along the mall.
City employees taught the kids how to get involved in all types of government activities.
"It's part learning about government services like gas, water, the fire department and the police department, but we hope that as these kids get older that they might think about an occupation, or a career in government services," said Ric Barrick, the Charlottesville representative.
This is the seventh year for this event.
