UVa Hosts 'Meet The Team' Day

Aug. 17, 2014

Whether you're a grown up or a elementary middle or high schooler, we all get excited when we know fall sports are around the corner.

On Sunday, fans of all ages got to meet their favorite Cavaliers at the University of Virginia.

"Football, football, and soccer," said a group of young Cavalier fans waiting in line to see their favorite teams. "I came to see Lambert too, I hear he's really good but i don't like the beard now," she said.

Fans of all ages had the chance to meet and greet their favorite players and teams as everyone was dressed in orange and blue from head to toe.

Heading into a pivotal fifth year, head football coach Mike London believes making the connection between sports and the community is very important.

"It's always important for hometown fans to see the players that are going to class, that are in the community, that are playing on the field, we want to make that connection," London said.

Some fans even came out simply because of that connection with a particular player.

"My mom was one of the soccer player's teacher, and i know most of the soccer players, so i came to see the soccer players," said Seth Winchel.

No matter the sport you love most at UVa, the feel among most fans, players and coaches is that they are all hopeful of a productive fall sports season.

"I value the fanbase at UVa and I'm excited about this year," said Mike London.

Fans are getting their tailgate gear together as everyone anticipates the nationally televised home opener on august 30th when the Cavs welcome the UCLA Bruins to Scott Stadium. Kickoff is set for that Saturday at Noon.
