May is National Foster Care Month. Today, 298 ribbons were tied onto trees on the downtown mall to signify the children in central Virginia who are in foster families. The program raises awareness that there's a great need for foster parents in the community and that the very same problems in big cities are occurring right here in Charlottesville.

"This ribbon tying ceremony is a way for us to visually represent the great number of children who are in foster care in Charlottesville, Albemarle and Greene," said Amy Nash, part of the Tri-Area-Foster Area.

If you or someone you know is interested in being a foster parent you can call 434-970-3329 for more information.
