Phone Scam Hits Charlottesville

August 28, 2014

The Charlottesville Police Department is warning residents about a phone scam hitting the area.

Businesses across Charlottesville have been receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be with Dominion Power. The caller says their power will be shut off if they do not pay them $1000, and they give a phone number to call back to make the payment.

Police say no business owners have completed the transaction. They have confirmed with Dominion Power that this is a scam, and want to notify people if they receive calls like this, to call police and file a report.
