Saturday night's fire at Taco Bell on Pantops in Albemarle county caused an estimated $100,000 in damage.
Fire broke out Saturday evening around 7:30 in the Taco Bell on 250 at Pantops. The restaurant was open at the time. Everyone inside was evacuated and there were no reports of injuries.
According to East Rivanna Fire Chief Scott Goss, the fire caused considerable damage to the outside rear of the building. The kitchen area inside also was damaged. Much of the inside of the building sustained heavy smoke damage.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but investigators are focusing on an exterior illuminated sign.
It is expected to take several days to make the necessary repairs before the restaurant can reopen.
