Tuesday night, dozens of University Democrats got together at UVa to watch day two of the Democratic National Convention speeches including Senate candidate Mark Warner's keynote address.

Warner told the crowd "we need a president who understands the wold today, the future we seek, and the change we need, we need Barack Obama as the next President of the United States."

It's that message that has University Democrats like Sarah Buckley applauding the former governor's message of cooperation during a partisan event.

"I think the Obama campaign and convention organizers really made a great choice in choosing Warner because of his message of bipartisanship," Buckley says.

Warner suggested he would focus on working together, rather than attack on John McCain.

Warner said, "because the race for the future will be won when old partisanship gives way to new ideas...when we put solutions over stalemates, and when hope replaces fear."

A message that hit home with these younger voters.

U-Dems member Anna Jacobs says, "Mark Warner represents I think a new kind of politics similar to Obama and also Tom Periello here in the 5th...trying to rise above party politics."

Phillip Sukys, U-Dems Campaign and Party Coordinator says, "pundits can say all they want but really democrats this year are the people working across the aisle."

Warner is the favorite in the race this fall for an open GOP senate seat. Tuesday night's speech, could set the stage for national political future.
