Respresentatives from the magazine Sports Illustrated were in town at the Doubletree Hotel today to recognize four Virginia High Schools. It's part of a push to keep student athletes away from drugs.
The schools will receive athlete training through the Atlas and Athena Healthy lifestyle program. They'll also be featured in Sports Illustrated. Organizers say their program helps student athletes steer clear of steroid and alcohol use.
"It leads to healthy lifestyle and what we've found is that it can reduce substance abuse years after they graduated from high school," said Linn Goldberg, Director of the Atlas and Athena Program.
None of the schools chosen were local, but representatives from at least 80 area schools attended the event.
